Note from RUBY Ray Amp designer Dave Ray:
"My plan was to design a simple amp that employs multiple, subtle features that would enhance the true beauty of the electric guitar and not be a clone of an existing amp.  The Ruby Ray is an all tube 20 watt/8 watt single channel amp with a full size Reverb Tank driving a 12" Tone Tubby hemp cone speaker.   For many years, I have been customizing amps for guitar players in the San Francisco Bay Area and have learned how to enhance circuitry and allow the true beauty of the Guitar to come through. The first preamp stage employs a 12AX7 tube with several slight changes that optimizes the relationship between the Guitar Pickup's inductive reaction and the tube and also yields a subtle compression. The Reverb circuit employs tube drive and a full size Reverb Tank as well as some EQ changes to yield a richer reverb effect. The Tone Circuit is Fender-like but employs a finely tuned "Mid-Shift" pull switch on the Volume control that gives the amp a more early "Blues" tone.  The Tone Circuit is driven by a "Cathode Follower" buffer stage and is located deeper within the preamp stages giving the EQ a more dramatic response. The Volume control has a "compensation" circuit that allows the Guitar to have it's "magic" at low volume levels. The Output Section is a unique "push/pull" 6V6 circuit that employs a 15% Cathode Bias in conjunction with an adjustable "fixed bias" which gives this circuit a unique sweetness. There are also "spike-suppression" diodes on the Plates of the 6V6 tubes which eliminates harsh overtones when these tubes are overdriven. We also have a "Pentode/Triode" toggle switch which allows the 6V6 tubes to be run in standard "Pentode" mode (20 watts) or "Triode" mode (8watts) which gives the sweetness of Class A. The Power Supply uses the GZ34/5AR4 Rectifier tube with a 5% buffering resistor and medium filtering—all designed to create a "soft" B+ High Voltage supply to give the amp natural compression. All of these features put this little amp in a class by itself. Many guitar players who have played through the Ruby Ray truly love it and immediately requested:  "Save One for Me"."

Matched Sets

Each tube is individually tested, measured, and precisely matched to the same milliamp to ensure consistent electrical performance across every set. This careful matching process promotes balanced operation, reliable response, and long-term stability in your amplifier. Precision milliamp matching is a standard part of our quality control and is included at no additional cost.

Carefully Tested

Every tube is subjected to a comprehensive testing process using custom-designed, calibrated equipment to evaluate key electrical and performance characteristics. Each tube is measured for proper operation, stability, and consistency before it is approved for sale. This thorough testing ensures that only tubes meeting our strict performance standards are shipped, providing dependable operation and long service life.

Burned in

Every tube is subjected to a controlled burn-in process at no additional cost prior to shipment. During burn-in, tubes are operated under load for an extended period to identify early failures and ensure stable, reliable performance. This process helps eliminate weak or unstable tubes before they ever reach your amplifier.
